DJ Fantom what’s good homie? Congrats on winning the Airplay contest, what did
you take from that experience?
Thank You. I learned that if you work hard towards something you will achieve it I
was focused on winning and I made it happen. Even Through technical issues I stayed
focused so it taught me no matter the current obstacles stay focused and push through it.
When you were on the set, what did you do to gain the crowds attention?
I utilized the Microphone more. Doing more of a call and response thing that really
got the crowd into it. We were all having tech issues with the turntables so utilizing the
microphone was key in gaining the crowd. Also my music selection and technical skill
In order to be successful in a club setting, what are some of the things a DJ should
be aware of when rocking a crowd?
A Dj should know how to read a crowd, really watch them and how they respond to the
Music Being played. Know when to switch songs and creative ways to bring them in.

out of music. A Dj can’t just play the music they like, at the same time shouldn’t be a
human jukebox. A successful club dj will know how to Find the balance and keep the

What type of preparation should a DJ do to get ready for a night of spinning in the

night. Get a feel for the crowd and the atmosphere and check out the equipment in the
booth. Basically do your research and be prepared for anything. Organize your music and

What type of records gets the ladies out on the dance floor?
It really depends on the club/crowd. Reggae is really big at a lot of the parties I do and
gets the ladies out on the floor. At Mainstream/Top40 type clubs and parties the ladies
love Rihanna, Lady GaGa, and Ke$ha. At All parties Rihanna –“Whats my name’ always
gets a big response from the Ladies
What equipment are you currently using as a DJ?
At home I use Technics Turntables (1210’s), along with Serato Scratch Live and Pioneer
Djm 707 mixer, The best of old and new technology. In clubs I use anything from
Turntables to Cdj’s to Midi controllers, or whatever is available. I’m adaptable to any
situation. My ideal Setup is 2 technics 1200/1210 turntables, and a TTM 57 Sl Mixer.
I’m looking to add more technology to my setup like midi Controllers like the Novation
Are there any specific DJ’s that influence you?
Coming Up I was heavily influenced by dj’s Like Dirty harry, Dj Clue, Mister Rello and
Jadel, Grandmaster vic, Grandmaster Roc Raida (R.I.P.), Kid Capri, Dj CoCoa Chanelle,
Dj Scratch , Dj Domewrecka , Doug Brown, Dj Obah (who now teaches at Dubspot), and
a lot of other dj’s who were innovative at the time.
