Friday, November 30th, 2012In the era of “swag rap” and one-hit-wonders recycling topics of fashion, money and nearly unattainable glamour comes Rickaby, the antithesis of pop culture trendiness. This Midwestern producer, engineer and recording artist has just released a 20-song mixtape entitled “Testing the Water,” a combination of remixes and originals featuring a cast of regional colleagues.
“Testing the Waters” combines gritty hip-hop sounds and equally candid and aggressive lyrical deliveries that fans have come to expect from Midwestern MCs. Listeners who are drowning in rap clichés and pop trends will be glad they tested the waters with Rickaby’s newest mixtape, a proverbial middle finger to the erosion of content in current music.

What do you get when you put Tha SB, Blacklight and King Del together on one album…You get nothing but true hip-hop and bars. I was very curious how they were going to bring three different styles and three different solo artists together but they have. The “Underdogs LP” has the great production and lyrically is on point. The one thing you can usually have when you have multiple artists on one track is when one does not maybe bring their A game the others fall off but on this LP its the opposite. On some of the tracks the other artists most def bring their level up on those tracks. I would say most def download this and give it a listen.
